Dearlie is a private app for couples. Your notes are meant for one person — your partner. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.
1. Who we are
Dearlie is operated by Desmond de Moussac, an individual based in Singapore (“Dearlie,” “we,” “us”). This Privacy Policy applies to the Dearlie mobile app and this website. You can reach us any time at desmond@mouss.ac.
2. Information we collect
| Category | What it includes | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Account information | Your name and email address, provided through Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In. If you use Sign in with Apple's “Hide My Email,” we only receive a private relay address. | To create and secure your account. |
| Content you create | The notes you send — drawings and text — the images they are rendered into, and any reactions. | To deliver notes to your partner and keep them in your shared Jar. |
| Pairing information | Invite codes and the link between you and your partner's account. | To connect the two of you and route notes correctly. |
| Notifications | A push notification token for your device. | To deliver a note as a push notification with its image. |
| Purchases | Your subscription status and the validated transaction from Apple. We never receive your full payment-card details. | To unlock and maintain premium features. |
| Diagnostics | Crash and error reports, and basic technical data such as app version and device type. | To keep the app stable and fix bugs. |
We do not use third-party advertising or marketing analytics, and we do not sell your personal information.
3. How your notes are shared
Notes are private to your pairing. A note you send is visible only to you and the partner you are paired with. There is no public feed, no discovery, and no way for strangers to see your notes. The Jar — your archive of notes — is permanent by design and is never sold or used for advertising.
4. How we use information
- To deliver your notes and send the push notification that carries them.
- To maintain your shared Jar archive.
- To manage subscriptions and entitlements.
- To provide customer support and respond to you.
- To protect the service against abuse, fraud, and security threats.
- To comply with legal obligations.
5. Service providers
We use trusted providers to operate Dearlie. They process data on our behalf under their own terms:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), cloud functions, push messaging, and file storage. (Firebase Privacy)
- Apple — Sign in with Apple, the App Store and in-app purchases, and the Apple Push Notification service. (Apple Privacy)
- Google — Google Sign-In. (Google Privacy)
- Sentry — crash and error diagnostics. (Sentry Privacy)
6. Where your data is processed
Your data is stored and processed on Google Cloud infrastructure, which may include servers located in Singapore and the United States. By using Dearlie you understand that your information may be transferred to and processed in these locations.
7. Data retention
We keep your account information and notes for as long as your account is active. Because the Jar is meant to be a lasting keepsake, notes remain available until you delete an individual note or delete your account. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data and notes from our active systems, except where we must retain limited records to meet legal, security, or accounting obligations. Backups are purged on a rolling basis.
8. Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the app under Profile → Delete Account, or email us at desmond@mouss.ac. See our account deletion guide.
- Access or correct your information by contacting us.
- Depending on where you live (for example, the EEA, UK, or California), you may have additional rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. We honor these requests as required by law and do not discriminate against you for exercising them.
- You can turn off push notifications at any time in your device settings.
9. Security
We protect your data with encryption in transit, access controls, and reputable cloud infrastructure. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, but we work to safeguard your information.
10. Children
Dearlie is not directed to children. You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your country) to use Dearlie. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and, for significant changes, provide notice in the app.
